We had a late start to summer weather this year but September is tempting us with the promise of fall. The kids are back to school and we are getting back to our routine. My kiddo's are getting so big and so old, it always hit's me hard when they head back to school and they are a year older and a grade higher. Time is getting away from me!

It's no secret that I love the south! We lived in Georgia for four years and we miss it terribly. So you can imagine how excited I was to photograph this fabulous wedding in Aiken, South Carolina. The wedding took place at the Rye Patch which is an amazing home and gardens that have a long history in Aiken. It was a gorgeous venue, a gorgeous party and there was certainly a gorgeous bride! Adam and Megan, congratulations on your marriage and thank you for bringing me back to the south.

I'm loving the light from this session with Class of 2011 Senior Miranda. Her one request was sun flare in an open field. I told her we would have to have the perfect day (this is rainy Washington state after all). Our original date was totally rained out but thankfully we were able to reschedule for THE perfect day. Miranda loves photography so I brought out my collection of vintage camera's along with my new fabulous red velvet couch. I'm officially in love with that couch!

I was so lucky to be a part of Evan and Amber's big day! We've been having the hottest summer ever so you would think that a wedding planned for August 7th would be safe from rain...NO SUCH LUCK! It rained all day long!!! That didn't phase this adorable couple though. They were all smiles and full of joy all day long. Rain wasn't going to bring them down. Thankfully the rain was only a tiny drizzle during the ceremony, as soon as it ended the downpour began but we were safely tucked away under tents. It was a fabulous party!
Today I received a beautiful thank you card from Evan and Amber. I hope they don't mind if I share it with you all, it made my day...

Jensen Wedding

What can I say about the Carrie and Chad? Cute, cuddly, sooo in love! I love these two and I was so lucky to have been a part of their wedding. I flew out to Georgia for the event. We drove to Columbia, South Carolina for the ceremony then back down to Georgia for the reception that evening. It was a whirlwind but tons of fun. There were so many people at the reception we could hardly move around the room. These two are so loved, I think the entire state of Georgia came out to congratulate them!

P.S. I have never felt anything like 100 degrees in South Carolina! The second you walk out the door your wet with humidity and sweat...gross!!! I lived in Georgia for 4 years and I don't remember it ever being that bad.

My one and only Senior boy this year. He was super fun and a great model. He even scaled a broken down building to get me a shot that I'd been wanting to try for a long time. I'm pretty sure none of the girls would have done that!

I was invited to participate in an art exhibit next month. I will have some of my images on display (not sure which ones yet). I was also invited to be a judge for the children and youth competition. Ahhhh, to be young and newly engaged. There's something so powerful about new love. I took these engagement portraits while I was in Georgia last weekend and it just made me want to board a plane and run home to my hubby! I couldn't get these two to stop kissing and laughing. It was pretty much impossible to get a dreamy, starry eyed shot because they were so freaking happy they could only grin really huge the entire time. Congrats to you two!!!! I cannot wait until the wedding in July, I'm afraid you won't be able to stop kissing long enough to take pictures though!

I got a call from Colita because she needed some family portraits done before they move to JAPAN! I'm a little jealous because I'm a travel addict and I haven't been anywhere exotic in a long time. I'm feeling the withdrawals lately!
When the Sheldricks came to my house for their session, my daughter and Colita's daughter both kinda squealed. Apparently they are in the same class at school and they're totally good buddies.
Even funnier is that when Colita first called me my daughter had been listening to my conversation with her. When I hung up the phone she said that she had a friend at school who was about to move to Japan and wouldn't it be funny if it was their family. Well sure enough, it was!

This family holds a special place in my heart. Mom of these 3 gorgeous boys was a friend of mine back when our two oldest were little munchkins. Her oldest son and my daughter are only a few months apart. I'm pretty sure we may have betrothed them at some point, LOL! I may just lay claim on her little one for Lula as well!!
We share a lot of special memories together. When we moved to Georgia we ended up loosing touch and I always regretted it. You can imagine how thrilled I was to get an email asking if I could take their first ever family picture...ummm yes please!

Dubai to Puerto Rico

Mom and Dad (Pappo and KayKay) of this clan came all the way from Dubai for Christmas and their grandsons baptism. I loved getting to see them again and I really loved having the opportunity to take their family picture! As they flew back to Dubai they had to hurry and pack up their lives because they are being relocated to Puerto Rico. I know it sounds like a tough life, who could stand living in these exotic places?! Oh did I mention before Dubai, they were living in Chile? Yup, super hard lives. Don't be suprised if I go MIA and show up in Puerto Rico one of these days!

We did actually get some great family shots but this one remains my favorite!

JoNae has been wanting to have family portraits done for awhile but we've never gotten around to setting a date and getting them done, until now. Pete's getting deployed and we had a 1 week window to work with. Thankfully the stars aligned, the rain stopped, and we were able to get some great shots. It only took keeping the kids out of school! Who needs school when family portraits are on the line?!

How in love with my back yard are you? I know I am! My poor husband is terrified that I'm going to want to keep it an overgrown weed patch. Maybe I'll give him half and I'll take the other. His side can be well manicured and lovely, mine will be overgrown with old bikes, a rusty truck, maybe even an old tractor? I can see it now...sigh, so beautiful. I tried to get him to let me have an old rusted out bus but I didn't win that one!

Isn't this family gorgeous!? Jen is the kindest, most genuine person I know. Every time I see her she gives me a compliment, it always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside! The day we took these pictures...not so warm! It was bitter cold out but I think we all survived. I had 11 sessions that day and the Carvers were the first. They brought me some hot chocolate to keep me warm and it really helped, thanks guys!

28 people...this is a large family portrait to the extreme. It was so much fun though. For as many kids as there were I was so happy with how well it went. We did the entire family, grandkids shot, individual families, all the kids individually, some sibling shots, couple shots, you name it...I took it. All of that in 1 hour! Thanks to my good friend and fellow photographer Sue for all her help. The kids were so well behaved and dang cute! I think that really says something about how great all these parents are!

Natalie's babies

Her 10 year old was her baby for 9 years. She will of course, always be her baby. But after years of waiting she was blessed with another baby! Little miss "M" is now 3 monts old and very loved. Like my Lula she is spoiled rotten and loving it! If you've ever had a baby that you knew was your last, you knew it and it broke your heart a little, than you would understand the spoiling that happens. We just get so obsessed with our babies that we can't put them down, we can't be seperated from them. Then, they can't be seperated from us, they become serious Mommy's babies. It's a curse and a blessing all wrapped in one, we can't complain about it though because it's our own fault! Natalie, thanks for joining me in the club of spoiled babies. We should have listened to Nena when she warned us!

The Rose twins...and family!

The twins are going to be one soon so we did a little mini shoot of them so that Mom can get their one year annoncements out. How cute are these little ones?! I just want to pinch them and squeeze them cause they're delicious!

H&M Wedding in Seattle

This wedding was so beautiful!!! The conditions were terrifying but still, the venue was amazing. The bridals were done in FULL sun right smack in the early afternoon, yikes. The wedding was also in full sun without a sliver of shade in sight. Yet, it was in downtown seattle with the skyline and water right behind the couple. Oh my...sailboats going by, the wind blowing gently, the sun kissing your skin. Ya, it was awesome!

Senior Rep - Renton

It's the fall Senior season and I'm looking forward to it. This is Natasha she is my rep out in Renton. We had a great time in Seattle doing her session. It was a bit of a job finding spots that weren't cluttered with people but really I didn't expect anything different. I have to say that I definitely prefer session in Tacoma. Who would've thought I'd like Tacoma better than Seattle for anything!

So I've taken a 2 month break to move into our new house. While we're still remodeling and we haven't really moved all the way in at least we're there. I've been missing my work terribly and I'm so happy to be back at it. Here's a few pictures taken of little man Grant! These were all done in my yard. I now own over an acre of overgrown weeds, sooo ugly to look at but pretty cool for pictures. We won't even be touching our yard until we've got the house done. I will have a home office and studio to work out of along with that awesome yard, whoooo hooo for me!

We moved out of our house at the end of June and still haven't moved into our new home. Our closing has been pushed back to the end of July. That's why I've been M.I.A. All of our things are stored right now and we're living here and there and everywhere. So I'm sorry to my lovely clients that have needed me this month, I'm not trying to ignore you. I'm DYING to get back into action!!!

My dear friend Natalie had her long awaited baby just over a week ago. I already love this little girl like she was one of my own nieces or nephews. I took her newborn pictures on Monday and they prove that she is yummy and delicious!

We'll start with my favorite. Every time I look at this picture I just well up with tears. If you knew how badly Natalie wanted this baby and how hard it was to get her here you'd understand and well up with tears right along with me. Seeing her kiss her dear little girl just makes me tingle with joy...

Not the flower, the family. Once upon a time they had four beautiful kids, the youngest still a baby. All was right with the world. Then one day that perfect world was turned upside down when low and behold they were told that they would be having twins. TWINS!!! I would have asked to be admitted to a mental institution immediately. I'm sure I'd have to live there at some point so why not just get a head start.
We just love this family! They are so awesome. That's the best way to describe them. Anyone who can juggle the madness that they juggle and still live to tell the tale is AWESOME! Check out their cute kids.

This senior was just stunning. I just kept looking at my viewfinder in awe during the entire shoot. She was sweet as can be and just a joy to work with. Mom came along and had me cracking up. I brought my daughter Taylor on the shoot for the first time and Kasey and her Mom were so sweet to her. Taylor is 11 and has been asking me to take her along on a shoot. She wants to learn to assist me so she can be a photographer some day. I love it!

Brittney did NOT want to get her senior pictures done. I think I can safely say that by the time it was all over she was glad she went through with it. She was worried they just wouldn't turn out, I can put her fears to rest. I have so many amazing pictures of her I couldn't narrow her gallery down to 40 or 50. She has 70 incredible pictures to choose from.

The title has two meanings. Yet another beautiful senior. I'm doing 5 more senior sessions this week, yikes!!! I'll let you know if I sleep at all in the next few days. The second meaning is that we did this entire shoot in the pouring rain. Luckily we had Chelsie's Mom holding an umbrella over her all day. I had an assistant (thank you Sue) holding an umbrella over me. I would set the shot up and have Mom run out of the picture...pose, shoot, pose, shoot...bring back the umbrella. Then we'd do it all again. The pictures are stunning!!! The rain just made all the color saturated and beautiful. When you live in the state of Washington, you have to learn to work around the rain any way possible. Thank you Chelsie and Kim for being troopers and taking a chance on the rain...and me!

These guys were hilarious!!! They kept me laughing the entire session. It was a pretty crazy session. It was pouring down rain as I was loading my fabulous green couch into my car. I was totally freaking out that my shoot would be rained out and I couldn't use my couch. As I drove out of my neighborhood I could see blue skies in the direction I was heading. So I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.
When we got to the location the gray skies were starting to roll in. These three boy's grabbed my couch and carried it over their heads like giant ants. We plopped it down in the middle of this field and I snapped off a few shots. Within 10 minutes it was starting to rain. The boys picked up the couch again and hiked back to my car and loaded it. By this time it was pouring. We huddled under umbrellas and finished out the shoot with some individual shots of everyone in minutes. From start to finish the entire session lasted 20 minutes. Other than the fact that I took fewer pictures than any other session you wouldn't be able to tell. The pictures turned out fantastic!

While I was uploading these pictures from my camera my 11 year daughter Taylor came up behind me to look. As soon as she saw them she said, "jeez mom, another gorgeous girl. Your clients sure are beautiful." She's right, they are! Which makes my job easy because all they would have to do is stand there and the pictures would look great. Now turn the chin, pop a hip, or put their hands on their hips and WHAM...they look stunning. Aubrey wasn't just beautiful though, she was as sweet as can be.

It's the end of the year senior rush and I'm loving it. Check out Madi, she was such and awesome model! She only needed the tiniest bit of instruction and she would pose like a pro. Not only was she easy to take pictures of, she was a joy to hang out with for a few hours. We trucked into downtown Tacoma for her shoot and had ourselves a bit of an adventure. From the crazy guy who followed us, the crack head lady who screamed at us on to the weird-o who wanted to take pictures with me (no I did not let him). It was a day I'm sure Madi is not going to forget!

Seniors are my favorite type of portrait session because they're up for anything. Let's not forget that they don't run away or hide their face when you point the camera at them either! Boys are a little harder because they aren't usually thrilled to be getting their picture taken but I still love it. Here's a few shots from today's senior session. I pretty much think they rock which is saying a lot because I am my worst critic!

Welcome to the world little ones! Daddy here has been deployed for most of Mommies pregnancy. He got home just in the nick of time because they came into this world the day after he came home. They are 10 days old now and Dad will be off again in just a few short days. I'm so happy that I was able to capture some precious pictures before he goes.

They don't get any fresher than this! Our dear friends Jake and Sarah had their new little baby girl on Thursday night. I had the awesome responsibility of taking pictures of her just after her birth. She came into this world a little different than her Mommy was expecting, by c-section. Alan and I got to the hospital just in time to catch all the first moments. I felt a little like I was invading a private moment just a tiny bit because we were there before any family. When I was able to lift the camera to my eye and capture the moment their two little girls met their baby sister I didn't care one bit, I'm so humbled that I was able to document these moments for them.
I have had 4 c-sections myself and I missed all of these moments with my own children. I didn't get to be a part of the first bath, the footprint, etc. I was always way to drugged up to remember much. I made Alan snap a few pictures but I don't have many. So this was the first time I have been able to stand in the background and witness the joy of new life, it was remarkable.
My baby sister is having her second baby and I begged her to let me be there this time. She thankfully obliged me and I can't wait! When I gave birth to my little Tallula I was laying in the hospital feeling a sense of lose. I had never gotten to see the birth of a baby any other way than laying on a cold operating table. That's when I decided my sister was just going to have to let me be apart of her next birth. I didn't have to wait long, in a little over a month I will get to share the joy of new life once again. I could really get used to this!

Urban Location

My sweet hubby had the day off today and spent it driving me around looking for a new urban location. I was getting pretty bummed because we weren't finding anything. Just when we were about to head home I saw an alley way that we decided to go down. Check out the glorious goodness that we found! I made Alan hop out of the car and model for me, this spot is just begging for someone to take pictures of it.

One Year...

It goes by way to fast doesn't it!!! This little man came into this world just a few short months before my own little one joined this world. Taking his 1 year pictures was absolutely a blast. One of the cutest thing about him is that he has his own little language. He just talks away as though he's in constant conversation with you. Unfortunately I couldn't understand what he was telling me, the job of interpreting would have to be left up to his sister.

Kinda scary taking pictures of 23 people at one time, but I think they turned out pretty great! I was so happy that Linda (that's the Mom of this brood) was up for some fun location shots. Really the only way to make a huge family picture like this interesting is to go for it with the location. Can you imagine how boring it would look with everyone just stacked together in front of some trees or in a studio? So my solution was downtown Kent, there's some good back alleys and a great old train station. It's never easy to get a whole family together for a picture but I hope that it was worth it!

Little Miss "M"...sneak peak

I shot this incredibly cute little 1 year old today. If you've ever tried to take pictures of a one year old than you'll know how tough it can be. Well this little Diva made it so easy. She just smiled and smiled. As long as Mom was singing and dancing the hokey pokey we were good to go! By the way Carol, I'm having the hardest time narrowing down the winners...there are so many good ones! Here's a little sneak peak for you...
